The key themes that will inform the research of the WGRS are:

1. The impact on regional (in)security of intra-state conflicts that spill beyond national boundaries and involving a multiplicity of actors.
2. Integrated regional responses to the impacts of intra-state conflicts that spill beyond national boundaries.
3. Responses of erstwhile functional regional organizations to emerging security challenges.
4. Responses of domestic non-state and transnational civil society actors to emerging security challenges.
5. Movements and processes from above and below at the local, national, regional, and international levels to address human security needs.
